Getting Over Relationship Rejection
Getting over relationship rejection is difficult – even for the most optimistic person.
It’s bad enough to be rejected by a total stranger; however, when it comes to being rejected by someone with
whom you’ve shared an intimate relationship with – well, that can be almost impossible to deal with.
The reason lies in the fact that you have a history with this person. Building a relationship with someone takes
time, there are a lot of feelings involved, and having the rug pulled out from under you is not something that
you’ll ever be fully prepared for.
If you have determined that the relationship is over, there is little choice but to move on. But, often, we are
hurting so much inside that we can barely muster the strength to carry on with our day-to-day routine, let alone
figure out a way to emotionally break free from the failed relationship.
Here are 5 ways to start the healing process and get on with your life:
1. Convince yourself that time does, indeed, heal all wounds. Of course, you don’t want to hear that, but as
soon as you accept it, your future can start looking unexpectedly brighter. The fact is that, in time, you will get
over this person, even though you don’t believe it now.
2. Next, you need to accept reality. If the relationship is over, it’s over. Any time you waste from here on out
trying to “patch things up” will only hurt you. Avoid the urge to contact your ex. Yes, start thinking of him/her
in those terms – your ex.
3. Understand that there is a wonderful life out there just waiting for you to discover. You have many more
relationships and good times to look forward to – believe it. Someday you’ll look back and realize that this
break-up was a blessing in disguise.
4. Set some new goals and don’t be afraid to step out a little. Try new and exciting activities, or take up that
hobby you’ve been putting off. It’s your life and it’s your time – don’t waste it. In the worst case, this will
take your mind off the failed relationship. In the best case, you will meet new friends, have the time of your
life, and grow as a person.
5. Don’t harbor resentment for your ex. This will eat away at you and you’ll be miserable. Believe that things
happen for a reason and even though it might not be obvious now, you are better off.
Getting over relationship rejection and moving on is difficult, but not impossible. Just hang in there, it only
gets better from here.
